I was very moved by this article; it's very personal, and certainly worth a few minutes of your time to read. Friend's death shows cost of Iraq war
Whenever I read something like this and get reminded of all the pain and suffering and human wreckage walking around in the world today, I can't help but think that it doesn't have to be this way.
It doesn't have to be this way.
I pray that God will help me to rise above the mire so that I can shine.

Extraordinary. Thanks Blaine, that was a very powerful piece of writing.

It becomes so real when you hear it from someone who has been there. My brother is a war veteran. He was a sniper shooter out of our National Guard. He was deployed for an 18 month tour. He has very vivid memories of the hells of war. Like you I pray God will sustain him and bless all those affected by the war. His best friend was severely injured in an ied, humvee accident. He left as a physically fit, had-it-all-together kind of guy and returned as a man who had to have 1/4 of his skull reconstructed with no short term memory and other physical injuries that will last a lifetime. Unfortunately he has not handled this well and has turned to drugs and alcohol. The cost of war cannot be measured. Glad to see other Americans still have a heart for those involved with the war. Thanks for sharing.
